 2016 Preview 


       West Limestone completed the 2015 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region eight, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. West Limestone reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Cordova by a score of 39-7.

       The Wildcats hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Cantrell saw improvement as they won eight games following a 3-7 record in 2014.

       Since 2010, West Limestone has gone a combined 37-29. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, West Limestone has managed to compile a record of 101-155. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 4A and 288th in the AHSAA.

       The Wildcats are led by head coach Jordan Cantrell who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-11 over the past two seasons at West Limestone. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Cantrell.

       Coach Cantrell's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 11-11 (50.0%).

       The West Limestone Wildcats will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2016 season.

       The Wildcats enter the 2016 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak.

       The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

      Running back Reed Blankenship returns for his senior season after rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior last year.

      Chase Lancaster also returns for his senior season after running for 974 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior last season.

       The Wildcats open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Tanner on Friday, August 19 at James Kennemer Stadium. Last year the Tanner Rattlers finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 2A region six. The Rattlers lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Ranburne by a score of 56-55.

       West Limestone and Tanner have met a total of 61 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 26-33-2 record against the Rattlers. They last met in 2015 with Tanner winning by a score of 28-21.

       West Limestone returns 4A All-State Senior punter Chase Lancaster. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Wildcats also return Senior defensive back Reed Blankenship. He was named to the first team.
